Spa-installation specialist Barr + Wray has been appointed to supply and install state-of-the-art spa features for the St Regis hotel chain, part of the Las Vegas style hotel project on the Cotai Strip in Macao, China.
Part of Sands Cotai Central, the new hotel is the last phase of the project estimated at $4.2 billion. The St Regis tower managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide completes the property and is estimated at $500 million.
The creation of the St Regis consists of more than 400 guest rooms and 300 residences, a health club, two outdoor pools, two restaurants, two retail areas, a 1,600 seat theatre and the Remede Spa - which Barr + Wray will work on.
Barr + Wray has been appointed by fit-out contractor Lai Si to deliver the thermal suite of the spa to include two saunas, two steam rooms and two experience showers. The spa design is influenced by the luxury of the St Regis brand combined with the opulence of Macau.
Derek Barton, managing director at Barr + Wray, said: “Macau now takes in revenue seven times more than Las Vegas which means there is a wealth of business opportunities available in the city.
“The sheer scale of construction development in the area has added some interesting challenges to the job but we’re proud to be a part of such a major project in the city.
“Barr + Wray has previously supplied and installed spas in properties for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and it is tremendously rewarding to be working with such a prestigious hotel group on their high-end spa facilities.”
Having a presence in Asia has allowed Barr + Wray to provide first class services to some of the world’s most upmarket spas including ESPA at Resort World Singapore, W Hotel in Singapore, Ritz Carlton Bangalore and multiple properties for Leela Hotels.
The St Regis and the Remede Spa are expected to be open the latter half of 2015.
