Pool and spa specialist Barr + Wray has completed its 50th project in the Middle East and Asia at the luxury Le Meridien Airport Hotel in Dubai - its first for the international hotel brand which forms part of the Starwood hospitality group.

The Dubai division of Barr + Wray was awarded the £800,000 design and build installation contract for the complete interior fit-out of the spa and pool hydrotherapy features as a part of the second phase of the city’s airport hotel expansion project.

Barr + Wray was nominated as the specialist sub-contractor by the main contractor, WASL to Al Futtaim Carillion.

Located on the fourth floor of the exclusive hotel, the opulent designed spa hallmarks a traditional Middle Eastern marble build Hammam complete with heat experience showers and a dedicated steam bath. The separately constructed mud bath includes a preparation ante room and a further set of experience showers.

The lavish Hammam includes a double seated adjacent steam room with twin massage facilities and two decorative kurnas, an element of traditional Hammam architecture.

The bespoke five star spa also includes a Nordic Russian Banya sauna which alternates between hot and cold temperatures and forms a part of a four by three metre snow experience with rock glacier walls. The environment reaches below freezing to allow guests to cool down after the traditional Banya treatment.

Barr + Wray carried out all interior fit out works including  joinery, electrical, civil and finishes such as decorative marble features and the installation of stylish cove lighting built into recesses to highlight the spa’s exquisite ceilings.

The aqua-leisure specialist also installed three key hydrotherapy features in a rooftop pool on the fifth floor of the hotel extension, offering free access to facilities for guests, a body massage station, an air-lounger and a mini air tub.

In addition, the fifth floor sundeck surrounding the pool boasts a row of eight loungers which offer spectacular views over Dubai’s impressive skyline, while pool deck guests can enjoy male and female saunas with an ornamental backlit Himalaya salt-wall.

The spa forms part of the expansion of the Le Meridien Hotel Dubai Airport which has been constructed adjacent to the current Royal Club and which houses 197 new luxury guest rooms.

Peter Rietveld, managing director, Barr + Wray Dubai said: “It has been tremendously rewarding to work with such a prestigious hotel group on the design and build of their high-end spa and pool facilities.
“We were asked by the client to provide a complete package including interior design, fit-out and specialist equipment within a tight time frame and we’re proud of the result.

“Our continuing success at winning high value contracts with well renowned clients demonstrates our expertise in the design and build of high-end spa experiences and the wealth of business opportunities available in the Middle East.”
