A Lancashire health club has added the finishing touch to its spa's Serenity Room after fireplace design experts Brilliant Fires came up with a bespoke backdrop.

Last year, Crow Wood Fitness and Leisure Club in Burnley began redeveloping and expanding its Woodland Spa facility as part of a £4.5m investment.

However, when it came to sourcing a suitable backdrop for the spa's Serenity Room, they struggled to find a solution that would complement the tranquil atmosphere of the room while adhering to some very specific design requirements.

Assistant spa manager Lucy McIntosh said: "We had a clear idea what we were looking for - something that enabled us to create the effect of relaxation, movement and warmth with minimum maintenance.

"It needed to be waterproof with low running costs as the spa is in constant use and the Serenity Room is a popular part of it. Until we spoke to Brilliant, we couldn't find anything that ticked all the boxes, but they created the perfect solution to fit the bill."

Lancashire-based Brilliant Fires designed an electric fire effect to run along the Serenity Room's pool with a gentle flame effect and white, translucent pebbles which allow a subtle light to emanate across the low-lit room.

Managing director Jim Wright said: "The challenge for us was to create an electric fire in a water-based environment that provided the desired flame effect yet was safe and cool to the touch.

"The end result suits the space perfectly. It's a very private room and the layout means the fire is hard for staff to reach as it runs alongside the water, so it needed to be totally maintenance-free and in fitting with the calming, minimalist style of the room.

"The result was a true 'fit and forget' solution that will stand the test of time. It's a very efficient fire so running costs are extremely low, 24/7 - under £60 for the year. It's firmly fixed and mounted to stay in place and maintain its sleek and stylish look.

"We're delighted we could design and produce a sympathetic, bespoke and hard-working solution that completes the spa's Serenity Room beautifully."

Brilliant Fires have opened a £250,000 showroom at their Blackburn factory.
