The National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham was the venue for the final round of the Formula 2 Powerboat Racing World Championship. Fourteen of these formidable craft, capable of speeds of over 150 kph, battled for the 2012 F2 championship.
Senior Architectural Systems are sponsoring the current F2 champion, Eric Stark from Sweden, and this final round would prove to be decisive for the championship leader if he was to keep the title for 2012.
Qualifying was hard fought and Erik Stark took the second qualifying session setting the fastest lap time of the weekend in 41.25 seconds and a speed of 157.1km/h and securing pole position. The following day thirteen mighty F2’s lined up for the main event, with Erik in pole position, Latvia’s Uvis Slakteris in second and UK's Malcolm Goodman in third.
In typical fashion, racing was frenetic and Goodman clipped another craft which barrel rolled him out of the race. On restarting, the championship leader lead the race until the bottom turn mark, he spun out leaving Slakteris to take full opportunity of the misfortune and power through to take the lead which he held to the chequered flag. Eric Stark took third place and with it the F2 2012 World Championship.
