British manufacturer Keston has designed and supplied a boiler rig solution for QPR Football Stadium in Shepherds Bush, London, to meet challenging installation requirements.

Their prompt action ensured that the Club was able to meet official regulations within an extremely small timeframe, preventing them from incurring a considerable fine.

Just a few weeks before Sky Sports and the BBC were scheduled to attend the Club’s first home game of the season, League Officials presented QPR with strict regulations that effectively demanded the replacement of the entire hot water system. In addition, the boiler room had to be split in half to create two interview rooms for Sky and the BBC, presenting an even greater challenge in terms of boiler location and space constraints.

The gas engineer in charge of finding a solution was Tim Ayres of Prompt Services, who immediately called on Keston as he knew that a dedicated bespoke service was required, with boiler capabilities that could accommodate the long flue runs needed. After conducting a thorough boiler room assessment, Keston worked quickly to supply technical specification drawings to Prompt Services, ensuring the boiler rig could be delivered and installed as soon as possible.

Tim commented: “The decision to select Keston was simple, as no other manufacturer was able to meet the exacting requirements and strict deadline demanded by QPR. They worked quickly and efficiently and were able to provide a solution to meet all requirements, ensuring we could replace the existing system quickly and easily with minimal downtime.”

Keston boilers are designed for quick and easy installation, even in the most challenging situations. Their versatility is due to the unique Keston Twin Flue system, which offers maximum flexibility as it allows the flue to run vertically or horizontally from an elevation of 1.5°, or extended up to 27 metres from the boiler – a feature that was vital for the QPR Football Stadium installation. Keston Frame and Header kits facilitate up to 6 boilers in cascade and can be prefabricated off-site, making them the ideal choice for projects with a tight completion deadline. In addition, the high SEDBUK efficiency rating of these boilers ensures that running costs and carbon emissions are kept to a minimum.

The new Keston boiler rig was successfully up and running ready for QPR’s opening match and, since then, has consistently supplied reliable hot water for fans and visitors throughout numerous home games. Tim was delighted with the result and added: “I have been highly impressed with the excellent service and support provided by Keston throughout this challenging and tricky project. Trust in your supplier is very important and, as a result, Keston will always be our first choice for boiler specification.”

In 2013, Keston launched a brand new boiler range that includes high efficiency condensing combi, system and heat-only boilers for both domestic and light commercial applications.  As well as being SEDBUK Band A rated, Energy Saving Trust Recommended and with low NOx emissions at Class 5, the new range features Keston’s renowned twin flue capability - the market-leading solution to awkward installations. Offering maximum installation flexibility, each Keston boiler flue can be run horizontally or vertically from an elevation of 1.5° and extended up to 27m from the boiler. As a result, fitting and commissioning the boiler is hassle-free, even in situations where a long flue run is unavoidable. In addition, all Keston boilers come with a two year parts and labour warranty as standard, providing ultimate peace of mind.
