Knight Frank are pleased to announce the purchase of the Great House Hotel in Sonning-on-Thames by SCP Hotels Limited, for a price in the region of £5m.
The 50 bedroom hotel and restaurant on the banks of the River Thames, which had previously been under the same ownership for 25 years, boasts a fantastic riverside location. With a bar and two restaurants overlooking the river and large garden, it is a popular venue for weddings and functions. Well located not far from Henley and Reading the modern conference suite means the hotel is also ideal for corporate conferences and events.

SCP Hotels is hoping the Great House will be the first of what will be a number of hotels purchased by the company. SCP Hotels is headed by former Pizza Express and Punch Taverns entrepreneur Hugh Osmond, who was also behind the purchase of the 39 bedroom Swan at Streatley in Berkshire, also located on the banks of the River Thames, in November 2012.

Hugh Osmond commented; “We are looking forward to developing our hotel and restaurant concept over the next few years. The company has plans for substantial future investment in the Great House, which it views as a wonderful opportunity in a superb location, supported by a loyal and highly capable staff”

Dominic Mayes, head of Knight Frank hotels team, who advised on the purchase, commented: “The Great House is a high profile property in an outstanding location which I am sure will become a great success under the guidance of Hugh Osmond and his team. We look forward to working with SCP Hotels in additional similar acquisitions in the near future.”
