Permeable Paving for a Palmers Brewery Project

Being a listed building there were many restrictions to what we could do at the New Inn. We needed a hardwearing, permeable surface that sat in harmony with the building and its surroundings and SureSet fitted the bill.

Nearly three years on it still looks great and has given us no maintenance issues at all.  It is quite a common occurrence for guests to enquire about the surface.”

Wayne Causley, Company Surveyor, Palmers Brewery

Palmers Brewery closed the New Inn at Cerne Abbas, Dorset in 2011 for refurbishment. The project included external areas that required a practical, permeable, pretty surface to sit prettily in accord with this delightful 16th century former coaching inn.

JMDA, Architectural Services and Interior Designers, have a long working relationship with Palmers Brewery, and having previously used SureSet knew it was the perfect paving for this project.

“We have years of experience of working with listed buildings and one of the challenges  is finding materials that seamlessly blend in and quietly enhance the beauty of the building.

We specified SureSet because it fitted in perfectly with the natural appearance we were creating throughout the whole development.

It is also ideal for creating ramps and working with the many different levels of the

external areas.”

Jonathon Morgan, Managing Director of JMDA

Specified for the project, SureSet installed 246m² of permeable resin bound paving, in 6mm Maple from their range of Natural Aggregates, to the area outside the converted en-suite accommodation and car park. This gave the pub a seamlessly smooth surface with the convenience of no loose stone, weeds or puddles.

Refurbished with sensitivity, the New Inn now has a character bar, two dining rooms and 12 luxurious, en-suite guest rooms.

Specialising exclusively in permeable resin bound paving, SureSet is an environmentally friendly option to traditional paving that, when combined with their huge range of colours and textures, offers architects, interior designers and hospitality management unlimited design potential.

The versatility and durability of SureSet permeable resin bound paving allows for the creation of visually stunning, practical and hardwearing pathways, terraces, swimming pool surrounds, car parks, tree pits and roof gardens.

You can see SureSet at the Home Building and Renovating Show at Birmingham’s NEC from March 26 to 29 - Stand F109, Hall 9
