A new JD Wetherspoon’s pub and hotel in Corby has been kitted out with a giant sofa covered in artificial grass enabling the venue to maximise space and ‘bring the outdoors in’.
The Saxon Crown on Elizabeth Street has installed the 8ft feature in its garden alongside a 150 square metre non-smoking area, also covered in the product known as LazyLawn.
The alternative to real turf has proved a hit with the UK’s largest pub chain and its customers, with a number of other outlets commissioning LazyLawn to come up with ways to make more outdoor space accessible to customers.
According to LazyLawn, which is the country’s largest supplier of artificial grass, however this is the first time they have designed a giant sofa. Andy Driver, Sales and Marketing Director for LazyLawn said, “LazyLawn has so many potential applications and we’re often commissioned to come up with all kinds of wacky uses. Best of all it is durable and low maintenance, ideal for busy venues such as this.
“We used our popular Wonder Yarn product, which is comfortable, lush and easy to look after, here and at several gardens, in pubs and homes throughout the UK. Wetherspoon’s in particular has become a regular client of ours, and we’re thrilled that we can help their customers in Corby get the most out of the Great British summer.”
David Cunningham, Pub Manager at the Saxon Crown added, “Having our outdoor space landscaped with LazyLawn has given us a whole extra room for our customers. We’ve been able to keep distinct areas for smokers and non-smokers and the sofa adds a really interesting focal point.”
LazyLawn has a number of well-known fans, including Amanda Holden and Alan Titchmarsh, and provided £250,000 worth of artificial turf for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The turf specialist was also the first artificial grass brand to ever appear at the Chelsea Flower Show and has also worked with Selfridges, LegoLand and Center Parcs.
