Aico RadioLINK alarms provide safe and efficient solution

Tai Calon Community Housing has used Aico RadioLINK Smoke and Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms to overcome problems installing interconnecting alarms into one of its supported living schemes.

Tai Calon is the largest social housing landlord in Blaenau Gwent, with more than 6,100 homes.  One of its 11 schemes is Grace Pope Court at Llanhilleth.  It has 27 one bedroom flats on two floors.

Grace Pope Court was built in the early 1970s and the ageing mains powered alarm system needed replacing.  However, Tai Calon wanted the work carried out with the least disruption to residents.

Aico recommended its battery powered alarms featuring RadioLINK wireless alarm interconnection.  RadioLINK allows Aico Smoke, Heat and CO alarms to be interconnected using Radio Frequency (RF) signals, eliminating the need for interconnecting cabling.  Furthermore, as these are quality 10 Year Lithium battery powered alarms, all usual cabling requirements have been removed, making it an ideal solution for Grace Pope Court.

The Aico battery RadioLINK alarms have been installed alongside the existing four zone conventional L2 fire alarm system installed in this property and acts as a backup system to this.

RadioLINK alarms have been fitted throughout the communal areas with CO alarms in the boiler room to provide additional protection should there be a CO leak.  These are also connected via RF signals to RadioLINK relay modules to strobe units within the apartments as the scheme operates a ‘Stay Put’ policy in the event of fire in the communal areas.

An Aico Ei414 Fire/CO Alarm Interface has also been installed as an added safety measure, which provides a dedicated connection between the Aico alarms with the Telecare/Warden Call System, enabling an emergency signal to be transmitted directly to that system if fire or CO is detected.

Chris Smith, Technical Officer with Tai Calon, was very pleased with the cost-effective solution provided by Aico: “The level of backup and training was what I expected from Aico’s Steve Paskell [Regional Specification Manager], who remedied a lot of queries for myself and Tai Calon.”

This is not the first installation Aico has carried out for Tai Calon, which has a number of Aico mains powered alarms in its homes.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Ei Electronics, Aico is a market leader in residential fire and CO protection in the UK. All alarms are designed and built in Ireland specifically to meet the UK standards and regulations. With more mains powered domestic smoke alarms installed in the UK’s social housing than any other manufacturer, Aico is tried, tested and trusted.

Aico has a dedicated team of Regional Managers to support specifications and supply of products. Aico also offers technical support over the phone and an internal sales team to help with any enquiries.
