Dickies, the internationally renowned workwear brand, have joined forces with Tog Studio who host live-build projects which teach practical construction skills by donating clothing essential for safety on site.
Tog Studio gives practical hands-on skills to people who wouldn't normally get involved with the act of making so they can help deliver contemporary architecture and engineering projects.
The project that Dickies donated to involved building a 'sitooterie' (an outdoor seating area) with service users of a Salvation Army Lifehouse in Edinburgh. The team built a crisp rectangular pavilion over the course of a weekend which was conceived as a 'picture frame' that celebrated changing everyday uses, from outdoor counselling sessions to a stage for musical performances.
Safety is important on any construction project, but none more so than when working with people who have little or no experience of working on-site. Therefore Tog Studio were extremely grateful to team up with Dickies who provided sponsorship through the supply of hard hats, steel toes rigger boots and high-vis waistcoats.
Michael Holliday an architect at Tog Studio commented: “It is essential that we have partners in order for the scheme to be successful. The buildings which Tog Studio design are hardwearing, practical and look good - which are the same qualities as Dickies' personal protective equipment. Generous sponsorship of equipment and materials, like those supplied by Dickies, make projects like this viable and means we can work with organisations like the Salvation Army.”
Maurice Morton, sales & marketing director at at Dickies enthused: “We are proud to be helping Tog Studio, who enable people to gain new skill sets by working on projects like these. Dickies supply only the highest quality products from the most reputable sources.”
