Avonline Flooring has won a £1m commercial contract to fit flooring in two of the former athletes' accommodation plots being refurbished by Galliford Try at East Village in Stratford, East London.

The East Village development was initially designed to provide thousands of bed spaces for athletes and officials during London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The current refurbishment being carried out for the Olympic Delivery Authority forms part of the retrofit of the Athletes' Village into its legacy arrangement as the East Village. The development is being transformed into a residential neighbourhood with community facilities, new parks and open spaces.

Avonline is fitting 31,000 m2 of vinyl, wood and carpet flooring in 427 housing units in blocks N26 and N13 over several months scheduled to finish by autumn 2013. The two blocks will provide 223 private, 115 social housing and 89 shared ownership homes.

Avonline plc was established in 1981. Its specialist Contract Flooring Division has grown rapidly in recent years with a number of significant contract wins in the private and public sectors. Installations director Richard Hale said: "We believe Avonline's long track record of financial stability was a factor in our selection. We know from previous contract wins that our combination of quality, delivery, accreditations and a stable financial platform puts us ahead of some competitors.
