Leading integrated support services company Carillion has become one of the first businesses in the country to be awarded Green Deal Provider status.
The accreditation will enable Carillion to carry out energy efficiency home improvements as part of the Government’s Green Deal initiative, in addition to providing Green Deal finance to its customers.
As a Green Deal Provider, Carillion will offer its customers a Green Deal Plan, based on recommendations from an accredited assessor. The plan will set out the financial terms of the agreement and will include additional consumer protections such as warranties to cover the measures and installation. Carillion will then be responsible for arranging installation of the energy efficiency works, which will be carried out by an authorised installer.
In addition, Carillion will offer access to alternative energy efficiency funding such as the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), which will replace the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) and Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP) by March 2015. The company will also be able to advise on funds available from feed in tariffs and renewable heat incentives, which support renewable energy measures.
Carillion has a long-standing history of delivering energy efficiency solutions to homes and businesses and is therefore well placed to offer expert Green Deal advice and support. For example, the company has already been appointed as the exclusive delivery partner to the Birmingham Energy Savers (BES) scheme.
In this capacity, Carillion will deliver energy and carbon efficiency improvements to 60,000 households across the city, as well as schools and other non-domestic council properties, under the Green Deal. The scheme will give households affordable ways of improving their properties by fitting energy efficiency measures, such as insulation and new boilers.
As part of the partnership, Carillion has committed to create and sustain at least 360 jobs and to help 600 people from priority groups into placements, training and jobs, many through its own investment and skills training but also by encouraging its business partners to invest locally in a range of new green energy facilities.
The eight-year contract is estimated to be initially worth up to £600 million, but has the potential to be extended to the wider West Midlands area under a framework agreement worth up to £1.5 billion over eight years.
Siobonne Brewster, Strategic Development Director of Carillion Energy Services commented: “We are very excited and proud to announce our official status as a Green Deal Provider – it is a key step on our journey to drive energy efficiency, combat climate change and tackle fuel poverty. We believe that Green Deal has the potential to deliver widespread home improvements and offers a vital lifeline for the many fuel-poor households throughout the UK.
“In addition, the Green Deal offers a wealth of training and employment opportunities – which is why we are actively focusing on engaging with our supply chain partners, particularly local small and medium-sized businesses and social enterprises, to deliver service solutions that support the economic and social development of the communities in which we operate.”
