Conamar has been appointed by Merton College, part of the University of Oxford, to refurbish Rose Lane 5, its 3,000 sq ft accommodation building in Oxford city centre.
The existing accommodation, which includes 17 one-bedroom student rooms, is in need of upgraded facilities for its students, as well as conference delegates visiting the university in the summer months between academic years.
Merton College was founded in 1264 by Walter de Merton. It is one of the oldest of the University Colleges and is famous for its alumni including TS Eliot and JRR Tolkien. The college is also one of the most academically successful Colleges in the last 20 years.
The £715k refurbishment and alteration works include the installation of new walls and services to facilitate new ensuite bathrooms in each room. Conamar will also be installing new ceilings, lighting, and heating systems, as well as a new boiler room to facilitate the new heating systems being installed.
Neil Dower, Managing Director at Conamar, said: “We will be starting work for Merton College in late June when the students start their summer break. Upgrading the College’s accommodation will not only benefit the students when the new semester starts, but will also provide much needed accommodation for conference delegates visiting the university in the summer.”
