Offering numerous advantages to housebuilders and installers alike, Knauf Insulation is highlighting the benefits of its Supafil® blown-in glass mineral wool insulation as a solution for both external and party masonry cavity walls.

Since the changes to Part L1A of the Building Regulations in 2010, much greater emphasis has been placed on reducing the heat loss associated with party wall cavities. Mineral wool is the only insulant proven to work as a full-fill solution for both external and party masonry cavity walls, and offers significant on-site savings when installed in all walls of this type throughout a project.

Knauf Insulation’s Supafil blown-in glass mineral wool is only available to approved installers, offering complete peace of mind that the system will be installed correctly and efficiently. For housebuilders, choosing to use Supafil in both party and external masonry cavity walls means the same approved installer will be working across the entire build, saving on labour, machinery and on-site costs – and with only one point of contact and one contract to sign, the procurement process is much more straightforward, as is on-site scheduling and monitoring for the site manager.

Supafil reduces the potential for costly on-site delays, as it has been designed for high-speed installation, and is unaffected by severe weather or cold temperatures. As the insulation is blown into the cavity after construction, the bricklayers are able to build the walls more rapidly and the cavities remain clean and dry.

Furthermore, installing Supafil throughout the project reduces the amount of materials that need to be stored on-site – removing issues related to security and storage space. Supafil is compression packed and means the approved installer can normally bring the materials to site in one vehicle and install them without any delays.

Steve Smith, market manager, residential new build at Knauf Insulation commented: “Supafil is a cost effective and time saving solution that offers an unrivalled combination of advanced thermal performance and on-site practicality – backed up by a rigorous testing process that ensures complete customer confidence. Not only is it extremely thermally efficient, Supafil 34 was the UK’s first blown insulation product to meet the new Lambda 90/90 requirement of European Standard BS EN 14064:1:2010, which provides specifiers with greater assurances of long term thermal performance.”
