With the housing sector facing an ever-changing landscape, delegates from across affordable housing were briefed on a number of regulatory and technical updates at last Thursday’s NHBC (National House Building Council) social housing group event.

NHBC holds these popular twice-yearly events to bring together influencers from across the sector, to keep them abreast of changes to technical standards and regulations, and to share best practice.

Last week’s event covered topics including 2012 mortar guidance for pitched roofs, the DCLG consultation on changes to Building Regulations, advice on asbestos removal and NHBC’s development of a sewerage infrastructure registration scheme, as an alternative to Section 104 bonding for sewers.

External guests presented an update on the current housing market for both market sale and rental properties, the Housing Forum’s cross-industry work on rationalising regulations and case studies on the design of smart, clever homes for the future.

Mehban Chowdery, Regional Director at NHBC, said: “Our social housing events are highly important to the sector as they offer valuable information that enables affordable housing providers early advice and guidance to build the quality new homes of the future. Engaging with the sector twice a year in this way gives NHBC the opportunity to ensure the latest updates to our technical standards are widely briefed. Importantly it’s also a great opportunity to receive customer and stakeholder feedback on NHBCs risk management inspections, building control, claims handling/investigation and other services it delivers to the sector.”

The next scheduled social housing group event will be held at the London Euston Hilton on 15 November 2012. For more information, visit www.nhbc.co.uk or follow us on Twitter @nhbc
