With the latest report from the British Crime Survey indicating a 50 per cent increase in burglaries in which car keys are stolen, Simon Hipgrave managing director of Garador argues that the benefits of keeping your car locked away in a garage are far greater than you might expect.

Simon explains: “Improvement in car security systems means that thieves must now obtain a vehicle’s keys in order to steal it. This means that thieves are resorting to the invasive tactic of burglary in order to take a vehicle.”

“Where possible, people should keep their car locked away securely in a garage, as for opportunistic thieves it is often a case of out-of-sight, out-of-mind. It is important to also remember that the garage accounts for a large portion of the facia of most properties, and without the right door it can be an easy way for thieves to gain access to a private property.”

The latest report from the British Crime Survey also shows that vehicle theft from private garages accounts for just 1% of all robberies, whilst vehicles left outside areas or adjoining car parks accounts for a staggering 29%.

Garador’s commitment to security has been recognised with a “Secured by Design” accreditation for the company’s Guardian Range. This official UK Police flagship initiative supports the principles of 'designing out crime’. Garador is the only up and over garage door manufacturer to be accredited by the scheme. Garador’s Guardian Range of garage doors offer unrivalled protection for any property. With state-of-the-art lock body protection, advanced high security bracing and an anti-snap cylinder, the Guardian range from Garador offers the ultimate security solution.

Simon concludes: “With a significant rise in break-ins for vehicle theft, it is important to ensure that you optimise a private garage wherever possible to ensure your home and vehicle are as secure as possible.”
