Mayor Lutfur Rahman recently opened Sutton’s Wharf North, a new £49 million affordable rented development in Tower Hamlets from One Housing Group. The development will contribute towards meeting the shortage of housing in the area by delivering 206 new homes.
Suttons Wharf North provides 136 affordable rented homes, 62 shared ownership and eight intermediate rent and was partially funded by a £16million grant from the Homes and Communities Agency. The scheme delivers high quality affordable housing, including 19 three-bedroom and 36 four-bedroom homes suitable for families.
Mick Sweeney, Chief Executive at One Housing Group, said: “Suttons Wharf North underlines our commitment to meeting the current housing shortage. We are committed to continuing to build despite the economic downturn – we plan to build or acquire 4,500 new homes over the next three years, to meet the need in London for high-quality, affordable homes.”
Mayor Lutfur Rahman, Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets, added: “This new development is a welcome addition to Tower Hamlets. There is a clear shortage of quality, affordable housing in our area – this project will meet the housing needs of the local community, and will enable young families to move to Tower Hamlets, giving a boost to the local economy and driving regeneration.”
Suttons Wharf North, located on a former timber yard, will deliver 34 spaces for vehicles and a large secure bicycle storage area. Residents will also benefit from the excellent transport links to the surrounding area.
