A site manager for leading North East housebuilder Yuill Homes has been recognised as one of the best in the country for managing a building site, after winning a prestigious industry award.
Steve Cook, 41, from Wolviston Village, was named the Supreme Winner in the Medium Builder category at the NHBC (National House Building Council) Pride in the Job Awards 2012 for his exceptional management skills overseeing construction work at Yuill Homes’ College Gardens development in Billingham.
Up against around 13,000 other entrants from across the UK, Steve was one of five other site managers recognised at the awards for their outstanding achievements in building new homes.
Steve, who has worked with Yuill Homes for over nine years, said: "I'm absolutely delighted to have earned the title Supreme award winner. To be named the best site manager in the country within the medium builder category, is such a great achievement and something I feel very proud of.
"Winning this award recognises the high standards of quality that I strive to achieve with every project and also highlights the superb commitment and hard work from the whole team at College Gardens who've helped to deliver such an excellent range of homes onsite."
Steve has worked in housebuilding for 26 years after starting his career on a Youth Training Scheme in building and maintenance. Steve won his first Pride in the Job award in 2010, then again in 2011. In 2012, he added to that his first Seal of Excellence award as well as being named a Regional Award winner, before being crowned the NHBC's overall Supreme award winner in his category.
David Mullins, managing director at Yuill Homes, said: “I’m incredibly proud of Steve for winning such a prestigious national award. His dedication to managing a building site is second to none and his team also deserve the recognition for creating such an outstanding housing development at College Gardens.
“At Yuill Homes, we pride ourselves on our ability to consistently deliver high standards of excellence. This award is testament to the expertise of the whole Yuill team and is a reflection of the overall quality we strive to achieve on all of our sites.
“The NHBC Pride in the Job Awards is all about finding Britain’s best run building sites and is respected as a mark of quality throughout the industry. Steve and his team have proved once again how Yuill Homes continues to deliver high standards of craftsmanship for the benefit of our customers.”
Mike Quinton, NHBC Chief Executive, congratulated Steve on his win. He said: “Steve has consistently built homes of exceptional quality, having been shortlisted in both 2010 and 2011. The independent judges this year were extremely impressed at the standards Steve maintained on site, which is all the more impressive given that the winning benchmark rises year on year. Steve can be rightly proud of his achievement, which puts him at the top of his profession.”
