The University of Cambridge has awarded GRAHAM Construction the £26million contract to build the post-graduate student accommodation buildings as part of the first phase of the North West Cambridge Development.
The contract includes post-graduate student accommodation located in the centre of the North West Cambridge Development and will incorporate 325 bedspaces around a house model which is inspired by collegiate living intrinsic to Cambridge.
The plans have accommodation around courtyards and gardens, and have been designed by Cambridge-based architectural practice, RH Partnership.
Gavin Heaphy, Construction Director of the North West Cambridge Development said: “Adding GRAHAM to the family of contractors working at the North West Cambridge Development is fantastic. To have a national contractor such as GRAHAM on board to deliver this key aspect will ensure that we successfully meet the University’s growing needs for accommodation for an expanding population of students.”
Jonathan Hall Construction Director of GRAHAM, London / South East said: “GRAHAM are delighted to have secured this contract with the University of Cambridge, one of the world’s oldest universities and leading academic centres, and play a part in its greatest expansion in history.
"We look forward to working in partnership with the University to deliver world-class accommodation with a welcoming home from home environment which promotes learning among students. Our vastly experienced team understands how to deliver the best in student residences to a highly international market and we look forward to starting onsite in earnest.”
GRAHAM will work with the University’s North West Cambridge Development consultants, Turner and Townsend Project Management and Gardiner and Theobald Cost Management.
The post-graduate accommodation will be available for occupation in Autumn 2016. There will be phased completions across the first phase of the North West Cambridge Development from Autumn 2015 through to Spring 2017.
