A bespoke blend of bricks from the UK’s largest brick maker Ibstock have been used to deliver an impactful award-winning property on Dalkey Avenue in Dublin.

Winner of Best International Project at the 2014 Brick Development Association Awards – the premier showcase for the brick industry, recognising excellence in design and construction using brick – the unique house overlooks Dublin city and also boasts an enviable sea vista.

The architects specified a mix of Ivanhoe Cream and Cooksbridge Yellow bricks from Ibstock’s Buff colour range, and they are used to great impact throughout the property, including elements such as brick-lined terraces.  The use of a distinctive blend of shades of bricks has ensured an intricate and interesting appearance to the exterior to the building, which echoes its imposing position on a steep hill.

The overall memorable architectural effect of the house is characterised by the implementation of thick masonry walls, extra wide mortar beds of 25 to 30mm, perpends and flush joints, which give the property simplicity of form to contrast with the iron-rich granite hill on which it stands.

Andrew Halstead-Smith, Group Marketing Manager at Ibstock, comments:  “The specification of a combination of Ivanhoe and Cooksbridge bricks for the property in Dublin is a classic example of design ambition brought to life through the use of brick.

"The Buff range offers varying shades and depth of colour that can help inspire great design, while providing a warm and welcoming brick envelope for homes and buildings.

"The project’s success at the 2014 Brick Development Association Awards is testimony to its unique characteristics and a fitting public acknowledgement for what is, quite simply, a stunning home in a striking location.”
