Knauf Insulation’s Supafil Party Wall Insulation has been awarded with a British Board of Agrément (BBA) certificate. This is the first BBA certificate for an existing party wall solution.
Supafil Party Wall Insulation has been specifically designed as a full fill insulation solution for separating party cavity walls, in new and existing buildings.
The BBA is the UK's major authority offering approval and certification services to manufacturers and installers supplying the construction industry. Knauf Insulation’s Supafil Party Wall insulation has undergone rigorous testing and has successfully met all the requirements set out by the BBA.
Knauf Insulation’s Supafil Party Wall insulation is a proven solution to eliminate heat loss (known as party wall thermal bypass) in uninsulated party wall cavities in new and existing homes. The unbonded, non-combustible glass mineral wool insulation prevents heat loss; and when used in conjunction with effective edge sealing – fully filling the cavity – the solution allows a zero effective U-value to be used within SAP calculations for new dwellings.
As well as being an excellent thermal insulant, it also has good sound absorption characteristics, which helps to ensure that when a party wall is upgraded it complies with the requirements of Approved Document Part E of the Building Regulations - designed to protect occupants from noise in adjoining rooms or buildings.
Steve Smith at Knauf Insulation commented: “At Knauf Insulation we are committed to developing sustainable solutions and with Supafil Party Wall having met the standards required by the BBA, it demonstrates that our manufacturing processes are at an extremely high standard. It also offers our customers another assurance of quality.”
Heat lost through party wall cavities is now also included in the new version of RdSAP – version 9.92. This comes following research headed by Leeds Beckett University (formerly Leeds Metropolitan University), MIMA (the Mineral Wool Insulation Manufacturers’ Trade Association) and Knauf Insulation, which found that a significant amount of heat is lost through uninsulated cavity party walls.
