Logic Certification has launched a Gas Awareness for Cavity Wall Installers Course, created in a bid to raise awareness of carbon monoxide (CO) safety, as the industry sees insulation work increase under the Green Deal and ECO schemes.

Approved by the Cavity Wall Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA), Logic Certification's new course is particularly poignant following the recent case of a pensioner from Middleton, who died from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning hours after the flue on her gas boiler was blocked with cavity wall insulation.

The insulation company was subsequently fined £500,000, ordered to pay £25,000 in prosecution costs and since entered into voluntary liquidation.

Mark Krull, director at Logic Certification, explained: "To avoid dangers or fatalities, it is vital insulation installers fully comprehend the risks associated with gas and other fossil fuel appliances where cavity wall, external cladding systems and loft insulation is concerned. The Green Deal and ECO schemes have seen a surge in insulation applications and we have to make sure that people's lives are not being put at risk from CO."

Aimed at operatives involved in installing cavity wall and loft insulation and/or external wall cladding, the one-day course covers the following:
