Adopting the right approach will maximise RHI benefits for all

Mitsubishi Electric is using its appearance at this week's Greenbuild Expo to urge anyone looking at installing renewable technology to make sure they adopt the right approach so that they can maximise the benefits of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

The RHI scheme will see commercial building owners, landlords and individual homeowners receive a quarterly payment – which can amount to hundreds of pounds, for up to seven years for domestic installations and up to 20 years for non-domestic buildings.

“It is easy to see that the RHI will be a much needed boost for the renewable industry but we need to make sure that everyone understands how to get the best out of any technology they install,” explains John Kellett, General Manager of Mitsubishi Electric’s Heating Systems.

“Renewable technologies such as heat pumps offer a tremendous potential to help reduce fuel poverty and running costs over traditional carbon-intensive heating systems but we need to ensure that people understand the need to adopt a fabric-first approach,” he adds.

The company’s heat pump experts will be available at Greenbuild on stand (D5) to showcase how the market-leading Ecodan® range can be used to provide a constant, comfortable level of heat to a building whilst lowering running costs and reducing carbon emissions.

The Ecodan range qualifies for the both the domestic and non-domestic RHI schemes, which have been designed to reduce the payback period for renewable technologies and encourage more people to adopt low carbon heating systems.

“Greenbuild is one of the UK's leading sustainable refurbishment and building events, covering everything from energy management and renewable technologies to sustainable materials and legislation updates, so we expect visitors to be fully aware of RHI,” explains Kellett.

“What we will be explaining is how renewable technologies such as heat pumps can really make a difference, as long as they are designed, specified and installed correctly into the right properties.”

Ecodan heat pumps are available in individual units from 4kW to multiple systems up to 688kW, with the ability to work in tandem with other heating technologies.  The systems are already being used in schools, showrooms and offices that need to demonstrate an effective level of renewable heating, as well as in thousands of homes across the country from new build to solid brick Victorian buildings that have been thermally insulated.
