Four new developments will provide 164 new affordable over the next 12 months as a result of a housing partnership scheme between building contractor Westleigh Developments and housing provider Derwent Living.

Working together with several local authorities, the partnership schemes are set to see circa £3.7 million of investment funding from the Home’s and Communities Agency’s (HCA) Affordable Housing Programme, as well as private investment from Derwent Living and local authorities. Building in Eastwood, Hucknall, Newark and Nottingham city centre, the partnership schemes will transform disused land and will provide high quality new homes to proactively meet the need for local affordable housing.

As part of Westleigh and Derwent’s commitment to the county, 54 new homes have already been completed. Gainsford Road in Nottingham now boasts 38 new two bedroom bungalows for over 55s, whilst Occupation Road in Hucknall has had 16 new homes built.

An additional 110 new affordable homes are also currently under construction at Chewton Street in Eastwood and Barnby Gate in Newark. Chewton Street will provide a mixture of two and three bedroom houses, along with two bedroom bungalows. The former gaswork’s factory site at Barnby Gate will be transformed into a development of 56 new homes.

Samantha Veal, Assistant Director of Development at Derwent Living said, “It is critical to continue the delivery of affordable housing to the East Midlands region. Funding levels are significantly reduced and it is only through the kind of partnership working that Derwent, Westleigh, the HCA and our local authority counterparts are engaged in that schemes will continue to be delivered to the county.”

Ian Jones, Business Development Director at Westleigh, comments, “We are proud to be part of such a significant investment in Nottinghamshire’s affordable housing programme, providing new homes for local people. We are extremely pleased with our work so far with Derwent, which has produced over 50 new homes, and look forward completing the next phase of developments next year which will result in the regeneration of areas and the creation of new thriving communities.”
