Grimsby based fabricators Fabrique Specialist Glazing were a vital part of the supply chain in the development of the brand new Holiday Inn Express in Grimsby Town Centre. The brand new hotel development was built to satisfy the bed shortages in this popular town and Fabrique were a perfect choice to complete all the fenestration needs for the new hotel.
The Challenge
The hotel development required a complete glazing solution and the contractors looked for a local fabricator who could install all the glazing requirements throughout the hotel.
The Solution
Fabrique approached their aluminium supplier Kestrel Aluminium Systems to assist them with the project from the outset and the two companies worked in partnership for the entire project, from product specification to delivery.
Kestrel Aluminium quoted the complete job for Fabrique using the in-house V6
estimating software. The estimating package optimises all the material required
to ensure minimal material wastage and costs were kept to a minimum, an
important aspect of the brief to remain competitive. Each hotel floor was quoted
as separate jobs so the material could be ordered in quantities to suit Fabrique’s
requirements and the overall building project.
Specifying the 75mm and 100mm Curtain Walling system created a smart and
modern solution for glazing the wide openings on the ground floor. This popular
and robust system provided a simple solution for Fabrique to install efficiently to
make the building watertight. The system is also compatible with our commercial
doors which have been fitted throughout the ground floor. Both automatic and
manual doors have been installed utilising panic hardware and mag locks that
offer security and comply with building regulations.
The project brief included the installation of 80 windows that needed to
be thermally efficient and capable of accepting acoustic glazing. The
60mm Window System was the ideal choice offering low U-Values with
Fabrique choosing to install 35 and 40 decibel acoustic glazing to ensure
all guests of the hotel enjoy a quiet night’s sleep!
Fabrique offered bespoke solutions for the project, drawing on their
experience in the fenestration industry they added details to the building
that created a high end finish. Steve Hilldrith, Managing Director of
Fabrique Specialist Glazing explained “We created a cladding design to
mimic the appearance of a bay window adding to the aesthetics of the
building and were able to offer our design expertise to help finish the
project to the desired specification.”
The Benefits
As Fabrique were on a tight schedule to supply their part of the project
they needed to be in constant communication with the Kestrel team
to ensure that the material for each floor was delivered on time and
in full. A member of the administration team was assigned to the
project to offer continuity and a point of contact for all enquiries and
progress reports.
Not only has Grimsby acquired a new hotel facility it utilised existing
wasteland that was being used as a car park. The redeveloped land
now offers employment opportunities for the local area as well as
much needed accommodation.
To demonstrate the result of a successful partnership Steve Hilldrith, Managing Director of Fabrique Specialist Glazing met with John Treagust and Nicki Baylis of Kestrel Aluminium Systems at the completed hotel to show case the end result.
“On projects of this size working closely with our customers ensures a successful outcome for all parties. We pride ourselves on providing the support from start to finish and the Holiday Inn completed by Fabrique is a project we are proud to have been a part of” says Business Development Manager John Treagust.
