The 28th running of the national construction industry’s golf tournament began as usual with players organising their the first of five round matches, ready to meet new fellow golfers, playing the game they love and hoping, perhaps, to make it through to the Grand Final.

Then worldwide events overtook The Golf Classic as it did everyone’s lives. The organisers followed Government advice and guidelines and paused the event. The tournament carried on in fits and starts as lockdowns occurred and were lifted, with great understanding and patience on the part of those playing as each round progressed, event organisers, media partners and exceedingly supportive sponsors, Marley Plumbing & Drainage.

Finally, on Friday June 25th, the Twenty-eighth Grand Final took place at The stunning Carden Park Golf Resort, set in 1000 acres of glorious rolling Cheshire parkland. Our finalist teams joined media partner and sponsors teams to play The Nicklaus Course which all agreed had been prepared to exceptionally high standard to provide a fascinating golfing challenge.

The evening saw those gathered enjoy a gala dinner and prize giving which saw the following players receiving recognition, being presented with their trophies by Aliaxis Sales Director Richard Vidler.

Our Finalist Team Winners were Steve Hodgson and Colin Trestrail of Steve Hodgson Services, with Max and Geoff Talbot of Kettle & Talbot Ltd finishing as Runners Up. In the Sponsors Competition the TSP Media team of David Stiles, Harry Riley, Jonny Stiles and Matt Hilton prevailed, with the runners up prize going to the Marley Plumbing & Drainage team headed by National Accounts Director James Malkin.

The TSP Media sponsored Nearest the Pin prize was won by AC Whyte Ltd Construction Director Steven McNellis. And the Mainspring Marketing sponsored Longest Drive was awarded to Max Talbot of Kettle & Talbot Ltd. A special mention went to Harry Riley of TSP Media for his Eagle on the 18th and bottle of fizz was presented to Hassan Gunay of Amber Construction Services Ltd in recognition of his participation in the tournament for 21 years.

Many of those who took part in the tournament and all of our finalists expressed their renewed enthusiasm for the sport denied them at times during recent months and their determination to get out there, meet new friends, enjoy the game they love. We at the Golf Classic couldn’t agree more and look forward to welcoming you all again soon.
