Dalkia's packaged CHP subsidiary, Cogenco, is supplying and commissioning a 501kWe combined heat and power plant (CHP) at Morriston Hospital, Swansea.
The plant will save an estimated 800 tonnes of CO2 per year and contribute to lowering the Hospital's carbon footprint.
The CHP order comes as part of an extension to Morriston Hospital, which is currently undergoing major redevelopment. The new CHP will contribute to the hospital's energy efficiency and carbon reduction commitments.
The CHP system uses waste heat recovered from the engine during power generation to heat water, a process that lowers the amount of primary fossil fuel needed to generate hot water.
After the commissioning of the CHP engine, Dalkia will also provide operation and maintenance services to the acute hospital.
Morriston Hospital's extension comprises the construction of a new Specialist Rehabilitation Centre, multi-car park and estates building as well as improvements to the emergency department and mortuary.
Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board, who operate the hospital, expect the redevelopment scheme for the site to be completed in 2014.
