Creating a stimulating and imaginative learning environment for Christleton High School’s new £750k research centre, Forbo Flooring Systems’ Tessera Circulate and Tessera Arran carpet tiles have been specified as a key part of the interior scheme.

Located in Chester, the new building houses a library, a state-of-the-art ICT suite and a resource room for the school.

Phil Hill, Facilities Manager at Christleton High School, liaised with the flooring contractors Brian J Watts, to source suitable flooring for the project: “When looking for the right flooring for the new building, Forbo’s Tessera Circulate range really stood out with its striking and bright inspirational design, as well as its modular format – which provides a number of benefits including easy tile replacements and quick installation times, resulting in a long term, cost effective solution for the school.”

Forbo Flooring’s Tessera Circulate is a new approach to the design of random lay batchless carpet tiles, which consists of bold, contrasting, sharp geometric lines and organic curves with tonal blocks of colour. As a multi-directional tile, Tessera Circulate can be laid in a completely random fashion and yet the unique modular pattern results in a cohesive effect once installed, as the circles randomly connect across the blocks of colour.

For Christleton High School, 240m2 of Tessera Circulate in the deep purple and rich violet Piroutte colourway was specified for the library and ICT suite and 72m2 of whirlpool with its mixture of blue shades, was used for the resource room.

Nigel Watts, Director of Brian J Watts Flooring, who installed Forbo’s products said: “As Forbo’s Tessera Circulate is a random lay, batchless carpet tile, we were able to complete the job within one week – thanks to the fact that we did not have to follow any directional rules, which reduces installation time and generates less fitting waste.”

Forbo’s Tessera Arran in the grassy green colourway, Kiwi, was specified for the staff room to complement the modern furniture and to add an injection of colour to the space. The alluringly tactile carpet tile takes the concept of linearity in an unusual direction, with a multi-height loop pile design full of visual interest and rich texture, creating a natural appearance.

Unlike many linear designs, Arran can be orientated to suit the designer’s needs, including broadloom, quarter turn or tessellated.

Phil at Christleton High School concluded: “Forbo’s products have been performing extremely well since the building opened – despite substantial footfall on a daily basis, the flooring still looks brand new - like it was installed yesterday.”

All Tessera carpet tiles manufactured in the UK now contain more than 50% recycled content, demonstrating Forbo’s commitment to creating better environments with all their products.
