Leading provider of wall, roof and landscaping innovations, Wienerberger, donated more than 45,000 products to SkillBuild 2012, the UK’s biggest construction skills competition, having worked with organisers for more than 10 years.
Supported by Wienerberger, the competition saw 44 young roofers, and 500 bricklayers battle it out to be crowned the best in their trade. Wienerberger donated 43,625 bricks and 2,200 concrete plain tiles, hips and eaves for the competition’s regional heats, which took place between April and September, and the national final in September.
Simon Dixon, Training Manager at Sandtoft, a Wienerberger company, who has 30 years’ roofing experience, was a regional judge, commented: “Every year, SkillBuild provides an opportunity for young people just entering the construction industry to demonstrate their skills and learn more about their chosen trade.
“As a regional and national judge, it has been an honour to judge the heats which showcased a huge amount of talent and potential. It is so important for us to nurture these young talents who will, in turn, represent the future of the construction industry.”
Les Inkpen, Project Manager at SkillBuild, said: “We’ve worked really closely with Wienerberger and Sandtoft for more than 10 years, and it is fantastic that they have been involved again in 2012. We are now looking forward to the international competition where, after the nine golds won in 2011 by the UK, we are looking forward to another successful year.”
