In need of a floor covering that could replace worn carpet tiles in its sixth form common room and study room, Blessed William Howard Catholic High School required a product that could cope with heavy footfall, walked in dirt and food and drink spillages.
As such, the school selected Forbo Flooring Systems’ hybrid flooring product: Flotex Colour, for its durability, washable characteristics and stylish aesthetics.
Situated in Stafford, Blessed William Howard Catholic High School is home to 850 students with 270 of them in sixth form. Neil Hughes, the school’s Site Supervisor, commented: “Our purpose-built Sixth Form Centre lets our students study and socialise with friends and with food and drink consumed in these areas, it is not surprising that the previous floor began to look very old and worn out.
“A dirty, unclean environment is something that we do not want our students to experience, therefore we knew we had to replace the carpet with a robust floor covering that could withstand the daily onslaught, but also provide a warm and comfortable atmosphere. We looked to Forbo’s Flotex products as they could provide us with the comfort and resilience we needed in a floor covering.”
Forbo’s Flotex in a tile format was chosen for this project, as it provides a quicker installation for the contractors and if one of the tiles were to be accidentally damaged, they can easily be replaced. This ultimately saves money for the school and delivers a floor covering that will last.
Forbo’s ocean blue Indigo colourway, from the Metro range within the Flotex Colour collection, was installed in both rooms providing a clean, bright and fresh environment for the students. Thanks to its unique construction - 70 million fibres per m2 - Flotex delivers all the warmth and comfort associated with a carpet, whilst combining the practical elements of a resilient floor covering. Flotex has been awarded the prestigious Seal of Approval from Allergy UK; thanks to the fact it does not harbour allergens, contributing to a healthier indoor environment for all. What’s more, it also benefits from Sanitized® an anti-microbial treatment that offers constant protection against bacteria.
Neil continued: “The anti-bacterial properties of Flotex create a truly healthier environment for our students and provides the room with an undeniably fresher feeling – something that has been noticed by the staff and the students.”
Additionally, Flotex is 100% waterproof which means it can be washed right down to the base of the flock unlike other textile floor coverings – ideal for Blessed William Howard Catholic High School where food and drink spillages occur on a weekly basis.
Neil added: “Since having the new floor covering installed, the school’s cleaners have noticed that it is a lot easier to clean the rooms and the amount of time spent in there has been reduced dramatically, leaving them free to clean other areas of the school.
“The installation of Forbo’s Flotex was also very quick and seamless and was actually installed between two exam results days to avoid disruption to our students – excellent service.”
