Newton Specialist Basement Contractor, Hillbans were appointed to design and install a comprehensive waterproofing system to Fort Albert, a tower fort under the cliffs on the Isle of Wight.

Fort Albert is situated right on the edge of Island and because of its position is subjected to harsh weather conditions, including strong winds and salt spray. The waterproofing system was required to be robust enough to protect the structure from the environment.

The deck needed to be prepared by removing old asphalt and the residue from the previous system ensuring the new system would bond effectively to the concrete surface.  Hillbans primed the deck with a single coat of Newton NuSeal-LM at 0.3kg/m2.

Newton Acriflex Winter was applied in two coats. The first was applied on a reinforcing layer of Newton Acriflex Mesh, strengthening the waterproofing layer and acting as a visual depth –gauge for the second coat. The two coat application totals 2.5Kg/m2.

To complete the waterproofing system, Newton Floorgum Paint was applied to provide a decorative, UV-stable and hardwearing finish. The application of Newton Acriflex Winter and Newton Nu-Seal-LM has delivered an effective waterproofing solution for client, enabling direct foot traffic and protection against severe weather conditions. Hillbans have supplied the client with a 25 year product guarantee.
