Local contractors are being sought to help Robertson in the delivery of the new £8 million Redwell Primary School in Alloa, the first project to be delivered in Clackmannanshire by the hub East Central Scotland Company Limited (hub East Central).

The new primary school will replace both St John’s and Claremont primary schools, providing new, modern facilities for the schoolchildren. The school is being delivered as part of a £500 million investment programme covering construction projects throughout Forth Valley, Fife and Tayside.

Redwell Primary School will be situated on playing fields at Stirling Road. The new school will be 0.2miles from St John’s Primary School and 0.4 miles from Claremont Primary School. It will have approximately 440 pupils and the nursery will take 80 children in each session.

The school will have 15 classrooms, two gyms and a dining hall, as well as other teaching and administration areas. Each classroom will benefit from direct access to the playground and outside learning areas.

Robertson, the infrastructure, support services and construction group, is delivering the construction project for hub East Central and is holding a Meet the Buyer event on Tuesday 7 May to give local subcontractors the chance to join the supply chain and win some of the work packages available during the construction project.

Malcolm MacLeod, hub director for Robertson said: “Our Meet the Buyer event is a chance for local subcontractors and tradespeople to meet the project team and find out how they might get involved in the construction of the new Redwell Primary School, which marks an exciting new start for local school children in Alloa West.

Ian Mullen, Chairman, hub East Central Scotland said: “The hub East Central programme will deliver well-designed, affordable and sustainable community facilities throughout the territory and will generate many opportunities for local contractors.”

Councillor Ellen Forson, Education, Sport and Leisure Convenor at Clackmannanshire Council said: "This is a very exciting time for both school communities. We are on track for the school to be completed in 2014.

"Redwell Primary will provide educational benefit to the maximum number of pupils in Alloa West. It will allow for the very effective implementation of the Curriculum for Excellence by making use of flexible learning areas, indoors and out, and promoting interdisciplinary learning across stages and areas of the schools."

Construction of the new school will begin in summer 2013 and will take around 13 months.

The Robertson Meet the Buyer event will be held on Tuesday May 7, 10am-4pm at Alloa Town Hall, Marshill, Alloa, FK10 1AB. The event is open to all interested parties to attend.
