Light gauge structural steel specialist, voestalpine Metsec plc, has supported one of the world’s leading international oil and gas companies, BP, in its upgrade of Forties Pipeline coastal project through supplying cable management solutions.

The work was carried to update safety and security systems at the Kinneil Terminal Bo’ness site, an oil stabilisation and gas separation plant which represents the end of the Forties Pipeline System. The pipeline is used to transport crude oil from the Central North Sea hundreds of miles to a refinery in Grangemouth.

Metsec has supported the project through providing vital cable management solutions in the form of cable ladder, and cable tray, which is hot dip galvanised – a perfect solution for the coastal environment to avoid damaging corrosion.

Jon Hillier, Sales Director for Cable Management at Metsec, commented: “The Forties Pipeline is a fantastic project to be working on with BP. At Metsec it’s given us the opportunity to showcase how adaptable our products really are.

"With highly flammable liquids passing through the terminal on a daily basis, it is vital that repairs through corrosion are kept to a minimum. Our cable management solutions can be manufactured in a variety of finishes which mean they are suitable for use in a variety of environments including highly corrosive coastal locations.”
