Accoya, the industry leading modified wood product has been named Best Innovation at this year’s Best Business Awards which highlight and reward excellence in business.
Accsys Technologies, manufacturer of the award-winning modified wood product, Accoya, was awarded the accolade for its innovative solution to the need for a sustainable, renewable and environmentally friendly construction material.
The high profile Best Business Awards scheme acknowledges excellence across businesses of all sizes in the private and public sectors. The entries are judged according to strict criteria with a particular focus on innovation, by a panel of previous winners and other business experts.
Commenting on the award to Accsys Technologies in the Best Innovation category, Andrew Areoff, the chairman of the judges, said: “Accsys Technologies has come up with the answer for sourcing a sustainable construction material that is as durable as aluminium and concrete, yet is sustainable, renewable and environmentally friendly.
"It’s called Accoya. Wood has been around for millions of years but often it’s not quite strong enough. Through the development of its proprietary acetylation process, Accsys Technologies can transform low performing softwoods and hardwoods into a durable construction material on a par with tropical hardwood and aluminium. Now used successfully in over 30 countries, buildings using Accoya modified wood look absolutely stunning.”
Bryan Crennell, director of sales and marketing at Accsys Technologies, said: “We’re pleased to accept this award as recognition of Accsys’ commitment to providing the global architectural community and construction industries with a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to commonly used construction materials. In finding such solutions innovation is key, and we hope to continue to lead the way in this field with Accoya wood.”
Manufactured by Accsys Technologies in Arnhem, The Netherlands, Accoya is one of the most advanced wood products on the market today, using wood modification technology to deliver outstanding levels of performance, stability, durability and cost effectiveness. It is created by using a proprietary process called acetylation on sustainably sourced woods. This results in a non-toxic, attractive wood which matches or exceeds the properties of tropical hardwood.
Accoya has also recently been awarded Architectural Products’ Innovation Award, as well as one of the Netherlands’ most prestigious ecological certifications; it received a grade A rating - the highest level accreditation - from sustainability organisation NL Greenlabel last month.
