The RSA has significantly improved its fire safety by upgrading existing fire doors to become a fully automated door system.
Global Automatics, the leading UK manufacturer of automatic door operators, has provided four Premier-Swing 85 units for use in the 18th century building on St John Adam Street, London.
The RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) is a registered charity dedicated to finding solutions to contemporary social challenges. The listed building is a combination of Georgian grandeur and contemporary design and is a sought-after venue for commercial and social events. The doors in the vaults, which are now automated, modernise the building without compromising its aesthetics.
Premier-Swing 85 is a heavy-duty door operator, discreetly proportioned and cased at 85mm in depth. It incorporates inputs for activation and safety sensors, press pads and fire alarm. Through the retrofitting on the existing steel fire doors in the RSA vault, the Premier-Swing unit has converted them from manual to fully automated doors, complying with the requirement of the RSA for all fire doors to automatically and simultaneously act upon a signal from the fire alarm system.
Global Automatics was specified through Slide Aluminium Systems, an installer company linked to Fireco Ltd. Philip Bedford, of Slide Aluminium Systems, said: “We have used Global for a number of years for all of our automated products. Their systems are reliable, sleek, and offer many more features than other automatic door operators on the market.”
The Premier-Swing 85, which has an opening or closing speed of between two and six seconds, considerably increases the functionality of a door. Access can be controlled through the Exit or Enter only activation modes, and the unit is suitable for push or pull applications. These features confirm it as a leading product in terms of safety, and its use in the RSA will help to prevent the potential spread of fire.
The Global Automatics unit is also equipped with innovative and industry leading features; a self-diagnostic system identifies faults and instantly displays them for the use of the owner or engineer.
Global Automatics, which specialises in the design and manufacture of products, works alongside contractors with expertise in the installation of automatic door systems. Mr Bedford said of the company: “Global Automatics are friendly to work with and have a very professional and modern business approach."
The careful design and manufacture of products such as the Premier-Swing 85 means that they can be discreetly integrated within all building environments such as the 18th century RSA. Within the Premier series, Global Automatics also offers a full range of sliding door, swing door, folding door and retrofit kits.
