BM TRADA Certification has launched a new Window Acoustic Rating Label to offer manufacturers of windows a simple method to display the acoustic performance of their products.
The BM TRADA Q-Mark Window Acoustic Rating Label clearly outlines the acoustic performance of the window system. The Rating label will be available to manufacturers who have joined the Q-Mark Acoustic Window Scheme and can only be applied to products that meet the stringent requirements of the scheme.
Like other Q-mark third party certification schemes, the Acoustic Window Manufacturer Scheme requires manufacturers to undertake initial type testing as well as meeting stringent factory production control requirements. BM TRADA Certification undertakes regular factory inspections and audit tests before a Q-Mark can be applied. The scheme also requires all product specifications and installation instructions to be documented.
Product Certification Manager Simon Beer states: “Acoustic performance is a fundamental characteristic of a modern window, yet until recently it has rarely been tested, let alone certified.
“This revolutionary scheme, and in particular the rating label, will have a significant impact on the industry. It allows manufacturers to openly demonstrate the acoustic performance of their windows, while offering purchasers a clear and simple way to compare products, at a glance.
“The new label will give manufacturers a discernible edge in this difficult market, allowing them to clearly display not only the performance of their products but also highlight their commitment to quality.
“We have been pleased with the initial response to the scheme, which has so far been released to existing BM TRADA Q Mark manufacturers. In the first month alone, we have received four applications, with other manufacturers expressing a strong interest in joining.”
