Coastal style with character from British Ceramic Tile

If you dream of living beside the seaside and love the fresh, crisp look of blue and white teamed with distressed natural materials, then these new tiles from British Ceramic Tile’s Character collection are for you.

Character’s cornflower blue tiles offer bags of style for a wall covering with serious seaside chic. With a subdued blue tone reminiscent of a hazy summer’s sky, each ceramic tile features a handmade appearance to add textural interest and rich glaze to reflect the light for a bright and breezy coastal feel. Available in 10x10cm, 15x7.5cm and 10x30cm.

British Ceramic Tile’s Trend Manager, Claire O’Brien, advises: “Make your kitchen wall covering more contemporary by mixing and matching the size of your tiles. Small traditional tiles are given an instant update when added to elongated large format tiles. Team with distressed white shelving and accessories to recreate the outdoor feel, indoors.”

For a more discreet take on the seaside theme, try British Ceramic Tile’s new milk jug and teapot décors. Featuring images of blue and white striped crockery in a hand drawn, sketched effect, these new tiles add splashes of coastal style to an all white colour scheme. Each ceramic tile has a thick rich glaze and handmade appearance for a vintage look that will stand the test of time. Available in 10x10cm.

Claire continues: “The seaside look isn’t for everyone, but by carefully adding a few decorative tiles into an all white wall of tiles, you can subtly add a theme to your kitchen and let the coastal vibe sweep through. Keep all tiles the same size for uniformity and don’t add more than 10 decors into your splashback area unless it’s a large expanse.”

Along with cornflower blue and white, the range offers five other plain ceramic tiles in muted shades of cream, mink, cocoa, sage and wine are available in 10x10cm, 15x7.5cm and 10x30cm sizes, complemented by 22 co-ordinating décor tiles designed to add individuality to the range.

Character’s extensive range effortlessly fuses together a wide range of contemporary and classic motifs including herb tiles which feature the words ‘sage, parsley and thyme’, together with beautiful images of cupcakes, flowers, berries and cutlery. All décors come in 10x10cm apart from sage, parsley and thyme, which are available in 15x7.5cm.

Prices start from £70 per sqm for the plains and £4 per tile for the décors.
