Bristow’s Bench, the new £1.9million, 1,770-seated grandstand for Torquay United, has recently utilised Catnic lintels to replace an 80 year-old wooden stand that previously held a capacity of around 1,200 people.
Specified by Case Consultants, Catnic lintels were installed throughout the refurbishment project, including in the new changing rooms, gym and classrooms.
The new stand, which was built with the help of £750,000 from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), was named in honor of benefactor, Paul Bristow, who died in 2010.
Catnic lintels were selected for strength, reliability and ease of installation. Case Consultants approached Catnic, the leader in technical innovation for steel lintels and building products, to design and manufacturer a solution to work within the unique refurbishment project.
Supplied by Keyline in Cardiff, Catnic lintels offer many benefits for specifiers and builders, modelled for thermal efficiency and optimum psi-values, with anti-corrosion protective properties, the lintels are widely used and respected throughout the building industry.
Catnic lintels are manufactured from hot-dipped galvanized steel. For the unique Duplex corrosion protection, an electrostatic process applies a coating of thermalsetting polyester powder. High temperature curing then produces a tough durable surface to enable the product to be highly resistant to impact, abrasion and damage.
Tim Jones from CASE Consultants commented: “Catnic’s Lintel Advanced Scheduling System (CLASS), assisted us in completing the project in an efficient and timely manner, ready for the pre season friendlies in July 2012.
“Working closely with Catnic’s expert technical team and design service alongside supplying merchant, Keyline, CLASS provided a description of each lintel including its location, price and delivery time. Working together from one concise document ensures there is no room for error.”
Simon Hughes, Assistant Branch Manager at Keyline, commented: “Torquay United’s new grandstand, Bristow’s Bench, which offers spectacular views of the pitch and panorama all the way to Dartmoor, utilised Catnic’s highly efficient lintels due to the long lasting, superior quality characteristics of the products.
“Lintels are designed, manufactured and tested in accordance with BS EN 845-2:2003 and are certified by the British Board of Agrément, which offers designers, specifiers and builders peace of mind that they are installing high quality lintels, without compromising on style.”
