Located 10 miles east of central London, Woolwich Central – one of the largest ever developments by Tesco developer Spenhill – required a high performance insulation board to be installed on the structural concrete ceilings (soffits) between the underground car park and the new 85,000 sq ft Tesco store.
Not only did the insulation have to feature excellent thermal properties to meet the performance specification without compromising on headroom in the car parking area, it also needed to slow down heat transfer between the heated supermarket area and the unheated underground car park.
Following close consultation with the Celotex Technical Centre, specialist contractor Sharpfibre specified 15,000m2 of Celotex FR5000.
Supplied in a thickness of just 80mm to achieve the target U-value of 0.25 W/mK– Celotex FR5000’s A+ Green Guide rating also helped the project to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’ and a Level 3 rating under The Code for Sustainable Homes.
