CIRIA has announced plans to launch an innovative report on Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) at the Ecobuild 2013 exhibition.
In the UK we are under pressure to mitigate the effects of climate change and the cycles of droughts and flood.
Recent findings from CIRIA’s scoping study suggests Water Sensitive Urban Design not only has the potential to deliver better places and spaces, it can help manage water quality, flood risk, water availability and other impacts of climate change.
The WSUD engagement document will be launched on CIRIA stand S1836 on Tuesday 5th March at 4.00pm. The report designed as an easily digestible engagement document has resulted from a project funded by organisations involved in the built environment and water sectors to explore the role of Water Sensitive Urban Design in the UK.
Commenting Richard Ashley, Chair of CIRIA WSUD scoping study said: “Water Sensitive Urban Design is an approach to manage water in a more holistic way where the water cycle is fully considered during the urban design and development process.
"WSUD concepts recognise the many values of water and can bring multiple benefits over and beyond the management for flood risk, improve water quality, water availability and reduce the effects of climate change. The CIRIA scoping study has enabled us to understand how Water Sensitive Urban Design can be embraced in the UK.”
Visitors to the CIRIA stand will also find information on CIRIA’s activities around Green Infrastructure, sustainable drainage and WSUD as well as special offers on a range of our activities. Visitors will also have an opportunity to win £500 worth of CIRIA publications.
