CLEGG Construction has given members of the public the opportunity to look behind the scenes of three exciting multi-million pound projects.
The £4.7m site to develop Friar Gate Square in Derby, a £13m new student accommodation scheme at Selly Oak in Birmingham and the new £15m supermarket, retail units, apartments and mews houses at Lawley Square in Telford.
The company took part in Open Doors, a pilot construction industry project, inviting people to go around a construction site in their area and take a close-up look at the scheme.
Simon Blackburn, managing director of Clegg Construction, said: “We were delighted to offer members of the public the rare opportunity to see the workings of a large-scale construction site.
"The Friar Gate Square project in Derby, the student accommodation scheme in Selly Oak and the Lawley Square development in Telford are progressing extremely well, so it was a great chance to see how they are all taking shape.”
Members of the public who attended were given a tour of each construction site together with the chance to learn more about each project, its development and the world of construction. Attendees at the Selly Oak event included Birmingham Selly Oak MP, Stephen McCabe.
Open Doors is an industry initiative to present construction in an engaging and interesting way and showcase the dynamic, exciting career opportunities that construction has to offer. The project will also demonstrate the importance of construction to both the national and regional economies.
The Open Doors scheme is being trialled across the country and is the result of a partnership of four leading industry bodies, UK Construction Group (UKCG), CITB-ConstructionSkills, The Considerate Constructors Scheme and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
Clegg Construction is one of more than 23 employers to take part in Open Doors on 75 sites across England, Scotland and Wales.
