Research conducted in 2010 showed estate agents chose a wet room as the third most likely thing to help sell a house and say it is the thing that appeals to them most, after conservatories and wood burning stoves.
Adding a wet room can be a costly way of trying to sell a house so Simon Hockey, General Manager of Park Street Interiors, gives his advice on more cost effective ways to spruce up your bathroom.
Adding white towels can add a sense of luxury to a bathroom, and bring a crisp clean atmosphere. Most spas use fluffy white towels and so by adding them to a bathroom it can give a spa like relaxing feel to the space. They do not even have to be the towels used by the family; just pop them in before potential buyers visit the house.
In particular if a bathroom has an aqua themed colour scheme it can provide the spa like impression. Blue also subconsciously reminds people of the sea and sky and so creates a natural and relaxing theme in a bathroom. Warmer pastel colours on the other hand do bring a cosier feel; however be warned, strong colours can make a small room look even smaller.
Simon Hockey commented: “keep it clean and simple, a cluttered bathroom won’t help to sell a house. A white bathroom suite is also essential when selling as they are universally popular and never go out of fashion.”
Another strong selling point is the inclusion of natural stone. Heated flooring can be a great selling point, just make sure it’s turned on when potential buyers are viewing the house. Even something as simple as a plant can bring nature inside and shouldn’t be ruled out for the bathroom, but stick with greenery as apposed to flowers, as this brings a fresher look.
