Drywood brings warrantied colour to Non-Com Exterior

Non-Com Exterior from Lonza Wood Protection is the leading fire retardant protection for exterior cladding and construction timbers. The proven polymer based formulation of Non-Com Exterior treatment makes it the only UK Wood Protection Association Approved leach resistant fire retardant product. This allows the Non-Com Exterior treated timber to be used externally without the need for a protective coating. However, Lonza has now introduced Drywood Woodstain, a water based, high performance and warrantied coating for exclusive use on Non-Com Exterior treated timbers, giving specifiers the option to add an easy to maintain colour finish, if preferred.

Drywood Woodstain from Drywood Coatings BV has been used successfully on Non-Com Exterior treated timbers within new build projects in Holland for a number of years. Available in a range of transparent, semi-opaque and fully opaque colours, it offers architects and designers a robust and reliable coating for use with Non-Com Exterior treated timbers. Drywood Woodstain exhibits excellent adhesion to Non-Com Exterior treated timber, and importantly does not compromise its fire retardant properties. Drywood Woodstain penetrates into the wood and also builds a thin film layer on the surface, reducing dirt adhesion and allowing the timber to breathe. It weathers slowly and evenly and is easily overcoated with minimum preparation for on-going maintenance.

The combination of Non-Com Exterior timbers and Drywood Woodstain has recently been reviewed by the Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA). It concluded that Drywood Woodstains used on a number of projects in mainland Europe, provides a reliable protective coating system over Non-Com Exterior treated wood that will not incur any incompatibility issues and the existing long-term adhesion characteristics of Drywood Woodstain will not be compromised.

This research by TRADA has allowed Drywood Coatings BV to offer an initial 4 year performance warranty on Drywood Woodstain on Non-Com Exterior treated timber when applied by a Lonza approved applicator. This warranty can be renewed for a further four years following approved reapplication of the woodstain and compliance with the recommended maintenance programme.
