Building product manufacturers could be facing an administrative headache as CE Markings become mandatory on 1st July 2013.
Online product catalogue solution provider e-Xact has developed a cure by introducing a free of charge CE Marking database that is available to building product manufacturers who don’t subscribe to its service.
At the moment, assigning CE markings to any products covered by a harmonised European standard (hEN) or European Technical Assessment (ETA) is voluntary. The significant change of mandatory CE markings under the Construction Products Regulation 20111 (CPR) could be far reaching.
The Regulation requires product manufacturers to make changes to specification documents, technical datasheets and other marketing collateral for covered products that do not currently have CE Markings, which will cost time, money and resource.
Mike Shippin, Product Director for e-Xact says: “Our online catalogue service already provides subscribers with a data repository that captures all their product details, including the current voluntary CE markings.
"For building product manufacturers who are non-subscribers, we are offering a separate CE Marking database that will enable them to list some simple information about their products, including CE Marking details. This data will be available to builders merchants and other distributors throughout the UK.”
