E.ON’s flagship office development in Nottingham is using 135 ‘Circa’ pre-formed plywood column casings from Encasement to conceal structural steelwork in the £30 million building, which is home to around 1000 employees and a centre of excellence for the energy company’s credit management operations in the UK.
Designed by architects, Maber for developer Miller Birch, Trinity House is a BREEAM Excellent rated nine-storey structure that uses a range of green technologies, such as low energy glazing, photo-voltaic panels and energy efficient lighting to minimise energy consumption and is also connected to Nottingham’s district heating system.
The building was constructed on the original site of the City Council’s Treasury building by main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland and included the excavation and construction of a two-level basement car park in addition to the nine floors above ground, which provide 105,000 sq.ft of office space.
The internal design provides large flexible open plan workspaces on each floor, as well as breakout and relaxation facilities, and Encasement’s circular column casings are used throughout the building to conceal the structural steelwork while adding to the aesthetics and integrating with the interior decoration scheme.
Three different diameters of ‘Circa’ decorative casings were supplied and installed by Encasement on the project, which measured 350mm, 450mm and 550mm and span the full floor to ceiling height of 2700mm.
Manufactured from pre-formed 12mm thick plywood and incorporating decorative collars at the top and base, the casings were supplied plain to allow for on site decoration site to integrate with the interior colour scheme.
Encasement’s MD, Martin Taylor, explained: “The new building is certainly impressive not only for the physical design and construction, but also its excellent energy efficient credentials. At the time, this project was one of the largest single orders we had received for ‘Circa’ casings and we’re delighted that we also had the opportunity of installing them which integrated easily with the contractor’s work schedule.”
Encasement specialises in the supply of decorative casings, interior wall linings and cladding for the architectural, contracting and construction sectors.
