The world’s first 10-year, battery powered wireless Thermoptek interlink smoke alarm – designed by fire safety products specialist, Sprue Safety Products – has been shortlisted for Fire Product Innovation of the Year in this year’s IFSEC and FIREX awards.
Recognising excellence and innovation, these awards are the premier event for the industry, celebrating the latest technological innovations and best solutions devised by companies who develop fire protection equipment. The winners will be announced at an award ceremony at The Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel on Monday, May 13.
Sprue’s WST-630T smoke alarm is the latest addition to its FireAngel range. Featuring the groundbreaking Thermoptek technology, this alarm is the very first 10-year sealed for life battery unit to have wireless interlink capability. Easy to fit and use the WST-630T has been designed to provide the earliest possible warning of fire. Its Thermoptek technology combines the very latest in optical sensing with thermal enhancement, providing fast reaction to both slow smouldering and fast flaming fires in a single alarm.
Up to 50 alarms (or ancillary devices such as vibrating pads, strobes and low frequency sounders) can be interlinked for maximum coverage around the home – without the need for any wiring. Each alarm communicates with others by continuously sending and receiving wireless signals, creating a ‘meshed’ network. When one alarm detects smoke it triggers all the connected alarms to sound simultaneously, ensuring fast response times across the network and giving occupants the maximum time to escape.
In the event of an alarm being activated, the “intelligent silence” feature (enabled by pressing the test/reset button on any alarm in the network) will silence all but the initiating alarm.
This pioneering alarm is the second in FireAngel’s Green Product Initiative. The environment has been considered at every stage of development with every scrap of excess material being removed, from plastic in the alarm casing to the optimal amount of batteries to power the alarm and a wireless module to last the life of the alarm (as opposed to multiple replacement batteries).
