A novel solution to overcome the problems commonly associated with traditional barrel bolts not locking or sealing on dropped or warped timber doors has been unveiled by leading hardware supplier Kenrick.
Benefitting from a patented design, the Ecobolt compression bolt has been designed to seal and secure a door with very simple and smooth operation. It incorporates an offset bolt which rotates in a striker to lift and correctly position the door. This ensures that the door maintains its security and seal even if it has warped or dropped.
Its unique cam action means that the user can easily engage and disengage the bolt from the keep with one hand, making it ideal for the elderly or disabled who may find opening and closing a misaligned bolt difficult.
And because the Ecobolt effectively compresses the door towards the frame, it minimises noise levels, whilst eliminating draughts and preventing heat loss.
The maintenance-free Ecobolt is easy to fit, with no special tools required. It is available in a four inch size and in Polished Brass, Polished Chrome and Bronze finishes.
Steve Jones, managing director at Kenrick, said: “We are very pleased to bring this unique compression bolt to the market. It offers guaranteed performance, convenience and peace of mind for the user and overcomes an age old challenge of how to seal a door which has dropped or warped. There are many potential applications for the Ecobolt which is a great problem solver on many levels.”
