BASF’s PCI division has launched a new, virtually self-cleaning ceramic joint for all indoor ceramic tile coverings – ultra-convenient geopolymer joint grout PCI Geofug.
Until now grouted joints have been the potential weak spot in tiling installations, often becoming stained in appearance and requiring refurbishment long before the tiles themselves show the effects of age. However, Geofug’s ease of cleaning (even with water alone), makes it ideal for kitchens, showers, bathrooms, hallways and more.
Geofug’s cleanability – the Peciclean® effect – comes from its super-hydrophilic surface. This is not only easy to clean and withstands the use of acid household detergents, but also repels oil, fat and dirt, avoiding the collection of common household contaminants such as oil, balsamic vinegar, wine, ketchup, coffee and body lotion. It is also photocatalytic and acts against certain moulds found in moist areas.
Available in 12 colours, Geofug has a fine-grained surface and homogeneous colouring and cures without efflorescence and staining. It provides a long open time for wiping off (5-60 minutes, depending on the ambient temperature and the type of ceramic tile). Geofug is also temperature resistant to over 500 °C and has a dust-reducing formulation.
