The value of the bespoke solutions and outstanding customer service provided by the UK experts in tapered, single-layer roofing has been highlighted by a complex project to refurbish a multi-level school roof in Reigate, Surrey.
The original roof of the Brooklands Primary School needed to be replaced. “Although this wasn’t an especially large job, there were numerous rooflights and penetrations to be accommodated and this is where the bespoke nature of our single-layer tapered, roofing solutions really pays dividends,” explains Matthew Cox of Gradient Flat Roofing.
Gradient’s involvement began with an initial site survey to assess requirements and possible solutions. “Our approach is to work closely with the various parties involved and we pride ourselves on the level of customer support we can provide on a project like this,” adds Matthew. ”This allowed us to design an individual insulation and roofing solution for the school and we continued to make site visits during the installation process so that we could provide guidance and prevent any problems before they arose. The main contractor had used our service on previous projects and been happy with the type of detailed technical support we were able to provide.”
For this project, Gradient’s tapered Powerdeck F insulation board was chosen. Powerdeck F
is a closed cell rigid polyiscyanurate foam core, which is faced on both sides with a perforated, mineral-coated glass fibre tissue. With a thermal conductivity value of 0.026 W/mK it is some 30% more efficient than most other insulation materials.
Each section of a Gradient single-layer roofing solution is designed to fit a specific location on the roof and to accommodate any penetrations, rooflights or other obstacles while also creating the required fall. It is then manufactured under controlled factory conditions and delivered to site ready for installation directly onto the roof deck.
“This provides a far more effective and reliable solution compared to using a traditional multi-layer alternative which has to be built up on-site,” adds Matthew. Not only does it speed up the installation process, but it also means that the insulation solution is specifically designed to accommodate any obstacles right from the outset.
“Add this to the fact that we are always available to advise during the installation process and the end result is a proven and highly effective roof insulation solution.”
