UK Worker of the Year, Dickies’ initiative to recognise and reward excellence in the UK’s workforce enjoying a record entry and Dickies is delighted to be able to announce an extension of the entry deadline to allow even more people to take part.

Dickies is the world’s number one independent workwear manufacturer and in in 2012 is proud to be celebrating its 90thbirthday. For this year’s nationwide search to find the worker who exemplifies everything that embodies “doing a great job” Dickies is partnered by SEAT, which is providing the main prize for the UK Worker of the Year winner.

SEAT’s flagship saloon model, the 143PS Exeo S Ecomotive TDI is the top prize for this “feel good” initiative and it will provide the winner with a car that is fast, frugal and luxurious. With on the road retail price of £20,800 it is the biggest prize yet offered in the competition but with a CO2 rating of just 117g/km and an amazing combined economy of 62.8 MPG, boasts exceptionally good running costs for its class.

The competition is growing year on year and the number of people who had registered on the entry site had already exceeded 2011’s total by the time the entry period had reached mid July.

“We are delighted to have more entries than ever before and have already noted a wider spread of professions than in any of the previous years – and there some really interesting ones among that number,” explains Dickies’ Maurice Morton. “We are also now delighted to announce a slight extension to the deadline for nominations to coincide with our attendance at the GLEE expo in mid September – so there will be even more opportunity for people to enter.”

GLEE takes place at the NEC in Birmingham from September 17-19 and so the competition will now officially close at midnight on September 19.

UK Worker of the Year is a completely free to enter competition and people can either enter themselves or nominate someone they feel is worthy. The entry or nomination process takes only a few minutes to complete and UK Worker of the Year is open to anyone who works in the UK and who was aged 17 or over at the start of the competition in April.

Current UK Worker of the Year, Anna Simpson was actually nominated by a colleague at the charity for whom she works - the Amber Trust in Buxton, Derbyshire. “I was actually quite surprised to be informed that my colleague Mandy had nominated me for this competition and at first I thought it was a wind-up! But, of course, it wasn’t and it turned out to be one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Becoming UK Worker of the Year really has noticeably changed my life for the better and I would encourage anyone who hears about the competition to enter, or nominate someone they think deserves the chance to be considered.”

After the entries have closed, six finalists will be selected who will be invited to meet the judges at the famous Pinewood Film Studios. Automotive Journalist and TV Presenter, Quentin Willson returns for a third year as Chairman of the Judges. The finalists and their partners will then be Dickies’ Guests at the Gala Awards finale on November 2nd at Marlow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The November 2ndAwards evening will also see the presentation of Dickies Distributor of the Year awards. The scheme recognises excellence from the various businesses around the UK who sell Dickies workwear and the awards are divided by both market sector and, to some extent, by geographical location. South East England based agricultural distributor Ernest Doe and Sons took the award for Dickies best overall distributor in 2011.
